Nightshade (Something Terrible)

A powerful piece for chamber ensemble with two possible themes. I started writing this with the intention of capturing the electrifying atmosphere of a summer night. However, witnessing physical and emotional abuse at work created in me a dysphoric and foreboding mood. The acceptance and tolerance of abuse was truly “something terrible.” Therefore the song can be thought of as a theme for the positive energy of summer, or as a warning against the darkness of an unhealthy psychology.
